Daniela & Thomas: Kismet in Costa Rica

Tell us your love story — how did you meet, when did you know they were the one? :
DANI: On Christmas Day of 2022, I flew out to Costa Rica with my family and my best friend for my cousin’s wedding. Tom’s brother crashed the party and ended up spending a whole week hanging out with us, showing us cool spots to visit and taking us out to nightclubs.

TOM: It was midnight on a Wednesday. I was fast asleep when I heard knocking on my apartment door, and my brother’s voice. I got up (half naked, in my boxers) to let him in and realized there were people with him. “Hey dude, the nightclub sucked so we decided to come here,” he said, walking in. Dani was right behind him — I woke up immediately as soon as I saw her. I’d never seen anyone so bewitching. But it was late, I had to wake up early the next day for work, and I didn’t want to impose, so I went back to bed.

DANI: The following day we left the village and drove seven hours away, to a different part of Costa Rica. We’d only been there a few hours when I got a really sweet message from Tom saying that, if my family and I were ever in town again, him and his brother would gladly host us. My friend and I looked at each other and decided to immediately take them up on the offer, so we left my family to finish their vacation and we drove all the way back to Tom’s village. (My friend had something for Tom’s brother.)

TOM: I couldn’t believe they’d decided to come back. I’d sent that message without expecting anything at all. As soon as I saw her again, the sky exploded. I couldn’t get my eyes off of her. My heart was beating like it was about to detonate. We spent our first night chatting and laughing and playing games and chatting some more. I think I only got 30 minutes of sleep before going to work. But I was completely wired.

DANI: He took me to meet his parents on the first day. And then he kept introducing me to everyone in the village as the love of his life. On the second day, he told me not to go back home to California, to just stay with him. On the third day — our last day — he said that, no matter what, I should find someone to take good care of me, and that he volunteered to make it his mission in life. I was like, this boy is insane.

TOM: She went back to California but we kept chatting on the phone, and on Valentine’s Day she booked tickets to Costa Rica.

DANI: For Valentine’s he sent me the biggest bouquet of flowers I’d ever seen!

TOM: She came back for 10 days and it was crazy. We talked about getting married. When she left, we both knew we’d see each other again.

DANI: Afterwards Tom came to California for two months and met my whole family, including my aunts and cousins, and also all of my friends. Then we decided to go on a trip to Argentina together. We were totally broke but luckily Tom got an online job the day he landed in Buenos Aires. We went to Patagonia and saw penguins, went on tons of hikes, and had an amazing two months.

TOM: As soon as I came back from Argentina I started looking for a ring. Dani’s got excellent taste so I knew I had to get something classy and out of the ordinary. That’s why I started looking at Point no Point’s catalogue — and the service the girls provided (especially Kylie) was simply exceptional.

Do you have any advice or tips for others planning a proposal?:
DANI: Some women worry that helping out with ring shopping will make the proposal less special. Girls, don't be afraid to help your man out with a detailed Pinterest board of rings you like and dislike, especially if you want a unique shape or stone. This isn't just any ring in your jewelry box. Make sure it is something you absolutely love.

TOM: I think guys put a lot of pressure on themselves to plan something really elaborate for their proposal. I don’t know if that’s always a good move. You tend to become inflexible and to stress yourself out for no reason. In our case, I planned on proposing to Dani outside, in nature, on a beautiful summer morning, but that particular day she was a little grumpy and just wanted to go back to bed. So I figured it probably wasn’t the right day. But we went back to our place and we started cuddling and giggling and at some point I realized the vibe had, in fact, become perfect. So I proposed then and there, when it was just the two of us, and we had the best day ever.

Why did you choose a PNPS ring? What stood out to you?:
DANI: Tom knew I wanted a kite-shaped salt and pepper diamond, but he’s the one who chose where to get it from.

TOM: I looked at the various stores that offered the kind of ring that Dani wanted. Out of all of them, Point no Point had the best quality rings, and their selection still felt affordable. I had a lot of help from my sister and some of Dani’s friends to pick the exact ring. My advice: choose a ring from a place that you get good vibes from, and that you feel you can trust. The Point no Point staff gave me amazing advice; and it genuinely felt like they were steering me towards the wisest choice possible.

DANI: I was so happy with my ring that we bought my wedding band at Point no Point as well! It’s absolutely beautiful and I love showing it off. I can’t wait for the anniversary ring ;)

What has been the most memorable part of your engagement/wedding?:
DANI: I had no idea how special it would be to celebrate with everyone we loved. We kept the wedding relatively small (40 people), but our friends and family flew from all corners of the world to come see us get married in Costa Rica. My mom and dad fell in love with Tom’s parents, and everyone had such a good time. The ceremony was in a beautiful spot in the jungle, the food was great, and then we all went to the dance floor. We ended up dancing the macarena in the pool, all forty of us.

TOM: At the heart of the party I pushed Dani's mum straight into the pool hehehehehehe
