Allison & Michael: No Perfect Moment - Just a Perfect Love

Tell us your love story — how did you meet, when did you know they were the one?

We went to the same gym for years and saw each other around. I saw the way he interacted with others that would interrupt his workout to ask for advice and he was always so patient and kind. It made me want to work up the courage to talk to him, so one day as I was walking out, I stopped him and gave him my number. I was so awkward that I was shocked when he texted me a few hours later. We are both slow burners, so we dated for 5 months before we decided we wanted to be in a relationship. I don’t think there’s a moment in time where we knew the other was “the one” but more a combination of moments over the years. What confirmed what I already knew was when I found out my mom was sick and would not live much longer, he would stop by to see her with me all the time. He would help them around the house if they needed things. He would buy things to help make her life easier. When she was about to pass away, he took a private moment with her to share his proposal plan for me and promised her to always care for me. Then when she was gone, he checked on my grandmother constantly. He didn’t just carry the weight of my sadness, he carried my grandmothers and brothers and made sure we were all okay. He has the purest heart I’ve ever known.

Do you have any advice or tips for others planning a proposal?

At the end of the day, it’s all about the love you share and the common goal to keep it everlasting. Do not focus so much on everything being perfect. Stay true to your relationship, do something that’s fitting of you, and it will feel magical no matter what.

Why did you choose a PNPS ring? What stood out to you?

We love Lord of the Rings and it’s a huge part of our relationship. I always said I would have a LOTR themed wedding one day so when we stumbled across a ring named after my favorite character (Arwen) and saw how beautiful it was, it stuck in both our minds. Before he proposed, I knew what ring I already had because he was so giddy and excited that he showed me it and said “that’s the one.”

What has been the most memorable part of your engagement/wedding?

My fiancé was going to propose in Washington in the Hoh rainforest. My mom passed away 2 months before our trip & my grandmother 1 month before. Due to the cost of trying to get their things sorted, we had to put ourselves on the back burner. We had the time off work already and the day before we were supposed to leave, we got the stomach flu. Well, my ring arrived while I was home and while we were both sick in bed. He was so excited about it that he asked me to marry him in bed, with the stomach flu. It was so fitting for us and the excitement he had waiting to give me my ring made the moment so special and made the stomach flu much less terrible.
